KENCO COMMUNITIES NAMED ENERGY EFFICIENT BY FPL’S BUILDSMART PROGRAM 

Kenco Communities, one of South Florida’s premier developers and builders of single family home communities, has been awarded BuildSmart certification by Florida Power & Light Company, according to Terry Yeager, BuildSmart Channel Manager, for the state-wide utility company. 

“BuildSmart certification is only awarded to those builders and developers who meet all of the BuildSmart guidelines for energy conservation in new construction,” says Yeager.  “That means that Kenco’s new construction surpasses Energy Performance Index (EPI) requirements, or E-ratio, for the State of Florida.  The E-ratio is used by the State to measure the relative energy efficiency of new homes.” 

Florida requires a minimum E-ratio of 1.00 for new residential construction.  To qualify for BuildSmart certification such as that awarded to Kenco, homes must have an E-ratio of .90 or less.
